On July 20 2009, representatives of the Republic of Turkey and the CARICOM Secretariat met in consultation to discuss Turkey’s proposals towards establishing a Free Trade Agreement with the CARIFORUM States. The implications of Turkey’s request to deepen relations with the Region are not benign and will require careful considerationat the appropriate juncture.
